Business Profiles: Lovelight Photography
The most important photographs are those that reveal personality and emotion. They show genuine love, friendship and connection to the places we live. We are photojournalists who take great pride and joy in using our talents to create a storytelling collection of images. We do it for amazing couples who appreciate the emotional power and lasting appeal of our photography.
Lovelight Photography is the creation of Jonathan and Shannon Kirshner of Springfield, Ill. Our love of life and the wonderful way it is communicated through photography is what led us to our profession. It also led us to each other, and ultimately, our wonderful home where we're raising our twins, Harrison and Allison who were born in April 2008.
Our relationship began while students in the photojournalism program at Western Kentucky University. For over 20 years, WKU has been recognized as one of the top programs for photojournalism in the country. It is at WKU that we went on internships at newspapers across the country. During this time, we both were finalists in the William Randolph Hearst Journalism Competition, which is frequently called the Pulitzer of collegiate journalism.
Professionally, we have received dozens of awards from organizations and competitions that recognize the work of photojournalists. Our talents brought us to Springfield in June of 2004 when we both joined the photography staff of The State Journal-Register -- which in 2005 was named one of the best newspapers for photography by Photo District News magazine.
In 2007, Jonathan was the top-ranked Illinois photographer in the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA). In June of 2008, Jonathan left the newspaper to build on the success of Lovelight Photography, as well as continue working for editorial and corporate clients. Shannon continues to work at the SJ-R, as well as document the fun and memorable weddings of amazing couples.
